About Chandi Devi Temple

According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Chandi Devi slew the demon chiefs Shumbha and Nishumbha here at the command of Lord Indra. The main idol of Chandi Devi in the sanctum is believed to have been established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century AD. The current temple structure was built by Suchat Singh, the Maharaja of Kashmir, in 1929.

The temple is located on Neel Parvat, across the Ganga from Haridwar city. The ropeway crosses over the canal and the dense forest, offering spectacular aerial views. The forest trail through the thick jungle is also popular, especially during cooler months.

Chandi Devi + Mansa Devi Combo

Most visitors combine Chandi Devi and Mansa Devi in one day. Both temples are Shakti Peethas and part of the Panch Tirtha pilgrimage. Take the Chandi Devi ropeway in the morning (fewer crowds), then visit Mansa Devi in the afternoon. Combined visit time: 4–5 hours.
